The show still went on as scheduled at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards after the sudden death of pop icon Whitney Houston. It was a venue that was filled with moments of both tragedy and triumph throughout the evening. Unfortunately at the Men’s Grammy Red Carpet Event, there were many more moments of tragic style than of triumphant fashion.

Hip hop music producer Just Blaze looked like a member from a 90’s boy band walking the Red Carpet, instead of a well-known music mogul. His smart and stylish two-piece, brown tweed vest and jacket were lowered to a semi-casual look at best; especially when combined with indigo denim jeans, and a pair of old school sneakers.

This wasn’t the first appearance at the Grammys by the Foo Fighters. They’ve been around for a while; so they should have found better clothes to wear than their over-aged college best. The Indie group appeared wearing quite an eclectic mix of clothing; including a college tee, tartan plaid shirt, inappropriate black turtleneck, unstylish black velvet jacket, tacky red velvet shoes, sporty white sneakers, ill-fitting pants and straggly hair.

The worst, as well as the least dressed award of the evening went hands down to singer Chris Brown. Making his musical return to the Grammys he wowed the crowd with his fancy footwork, controversial Grammy win and unnecessary lack of clothing. This season it appeared that Mr. Brown decided to shun the Grammy Red Carpet Event. Instead he opted to head straight inside for the festivities. Unfortunately he forgot to button up his shirt before he left home. The washed out grey pants also did nothing to complement his too short leather jacket, or stylize his obnoxious tattoos.

Although it was a night of many bad fashion hits and misses on the Red Carpet, the 2012 Grammy Awards continued on. As the music community celebrated and mourned another year of music world triumphs and tragedies.

This season’s SAG Awards Red Carpet Event did not disappoint when it came to showcasing the very best in men’s unique fashion sensibility and style. Although there were a few fashion mishaps that put a slight damper on the affair; for the most part the men’s Red Carpet Arrivals showcased a night of style and elegance.

Midnight blue was the hot color of the night, along with the usual basic black. Armise Hammer from the film ‘J.Edgar’ looked chic and fabulous wearing a deep navy Gucci tuxedo, pristine white shirt and basic black bow-tie. Vetern actor Josh Brolin opted for a classic and elegant three piece Ermenegildo Zegna suit with high-peaked lapels and sleek black tie. The most modern and sophisticated style award of the evening went to ‘The Office’ star John Krasinski. His finely tailored Prada tux and black satin skinny tie looked dashing. The impeccable styling of his high-peaked lapels and satin pipe edging blew the other men’s outfits away in classic elegance.

Just like at the Golden Globe Red Carpet Event, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson from the ‘Modern Family’ allowed his undeniably quirky style to shine through. Between his navy pin-striped suit, matching powder blue shirt, navy patchwork bow-tie and grungy looking loafers; he looked like a classic 80’s flashback that was primed and ready to invade Ferris Bueller’s high school prom. On the other hand Jonah Hill from ‘Moneyball’ looked he borrowed his outfit from his best friend. Everything about his outfit appeared insignificant or disproportionate to his frame. From his tight black sheen suit, to his crisp white shirt with tiny round collar, and barely there black skinny tie: he left a lot to be desired when it came to creating the proper fit and finished style.

At the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Award Red Carpet Event most of the men stepped it up a notch and successfully reached the pinnacle of fashion and style. With the Grammy Awards and Oscars quickly approaching, they will hopefully continue to strive toward achieving an even higher level of style excellence.

At the 2012 Golden Globe Awards the men’s red carpet fashion event was as buzz worthy as the women’s grand entrance. However, among the numerous fashion hits and misses there were memorable (and not so memorable) outfits that got fashionistas talking.

One of the best dressed and most modern looking gents on the Golden Globe Red Carpet was Matthew Morrison from ‘Glee’. He wore his Dolce & Gabbana tailored black three-piece tuxedo to perfection; while elegantly showcasing his long, lean frame. The gold chain accent that was stylishly draped from his smart four button black vest also looked quite dapper in combination with his sleek open jacket. Completing this look with gently tousled short hair and a mega-watt smile only further put his glee club, quirky teacher persona to shame. Another fashionable mention included Brad Pitt; who sported a classic three piece black tuxedo and walking cane with impeccable style.

The award for the worst dressed male and unmemorable moment on the red carpet belonged to Jesse Tyler Ferguson from ‘Modern Family’. He definitely went all out in looking the most awkward, uncoordinated and unmodern man of the evening. Apart from his mousy hair color (which wreaked havoc with his fair complexion), his champagne colored bow-tie also clashed horribly with his classic white shirt. The buttons on his vest looked as if they were about to burst open, while his bottom half required a more relaxed cut pair of pants. David Duchovny presented another unmemorable moment. He looked less than impressive while decked out in a basic black tux; complete with a too skinny, underaged style black tie.

This season’s 2012 Golden Globe Red Carpet Show definitely had its high and low moments when it came to watching men’s fashion choices. Hopefully as the award season progresses there will be many more men’s fashion hits than misses to explore.

Joe Jonas, one of the Jonas Brothers is invading fashion scene and admits that he is addicted to fashion. Mr. Porter fashion line is one of his latest appearances in the fashion world. Classic jackets and men’s coats fit Joe perfectly underlining his transition from a teenage boy to a young man. Joe also admits that he is a shoeaholic (aren’t we all?!). And we have to admit that a man’s looks fits him so much better than a teenage image.
For those who are not familiar with Nicola Formichetti who now lives in New York, here is a short spill: as a creative director of Mugler, he is also known as Mr. Lady Gaga thanks to their friendship and his input into her personal style. So, as you can see, his talents have a lot of angles, not necessarily just a men’s clothing designer. Nicola was born in Japan and grew up between Tokyo and Rome, the perfect combination of a creative outlook on fashion! Over the years his work could be seen in V, Another Magazine, Arena Homme+, Harper’s Bazaar USA and other famous publications.

But back to the 2012 Spring/Summer men’s collection Nicola released at the fashion week in Paris. Despite the fact that it surprised many of his fans, the collection is definitely Haute Couture and in the fashion world it does not mean that it’s meant to be worn. More so, it is a creative expression of an artist. A little bit of 80-s and a little bit of futurism - that’s how most of the critics described the designs. An interesting fact is that the show was complimented by the green light on the stage that was justified by the designer as “the blood of today’s digital era”. All we can say is that it is a fresh glance at men’s fashion that does not offer us, hungry fashionistas, a lot of Haute Couture creations. OLENA Magazine votes for it.

I have to set the record straight right from the beginning: Fagnidi Mask Rouge event was not just about the fashion show and the fashion show featured not only men’s clothing 2011/2012 but American men could truly borrow a lot of ideas from Elie Kuame designs.

Let me first introduce Mr. Alain-Michel Fagnidi, a well known interior and furniture designer who lives and breathes luxury: just check out his website fagnidi.com. Mask Rouge Luxury Lifestyle weekend marked his entrance into Atlanta market. The celebration was joined by many international celebrities, such as current Miss Africa Dorcas Djehi Sery from Ivory Coast; Caty Caly, a famous female car racer who drives Ferrari and other luxury cars; Marie-Lise Baron, a fantastic designer of private yachts and jets - what a fascinating job! - and many more.

OLENA TV was streaming live for 2 fabulous nights interviewing and following the fashion show. The fashion show by Elie Kuame (Paris, France) started at 8.30 PM EST on Saturday night at MF Buckhead Restaurant and featured 15 gorgeous women’s dresses as well as a wealth of men’s designs.
First there was the Prada Brogue, and now it’s the Lug Sole Oxford that has taken over as the new ‘must have’ men’s accessory for the 2011 fall/winter season. Unlike its Brogue predecessor however, this dandy shoe has cool sophistication and undeniable mod appeal!

Don’t let the modest features of this classic shoe fool you. Rugged in appearance, yet charmingly sleek in design: this modern footwear looks fabulous for everyday wear. Its stylish silhouette and simple form is complimented by the improved construction of the sole’s built-in stability and added traction. The smart design of the thicker rubber sole will provide the wearer with functional, fashionable footwear, and create the perfect base for designers to develop even more fashion-forward shoe designs in a variety of materials, (such as the popular leather loafer style). New styles of this popular trend will undoubtedly be appreciated by Lug Sole wearers alike; especially during the change of seasons!

The balanced combination of a thick rubber sole and stylish Oxford upper create contemporary footwear that’s suitable for modern, business and active wear; while loafer designs compliment a more relaxed, street chic, semi-casual or casual appeal. Currently the average online price for a basic Lug Sole Oxford can range as low as $19 to as high as $500: depending of course upon the materials that are used, the quality of the shoe, and the designer’s brand name. Overall however, the Lug Sole Oxford is a much more practical shoe than its’ Prada Brogue counterpart; especially when you take into consideration the plausible differences between their rugged durability and classic, modern style.

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that most men love to wear flip-flops. They’ve been a staple for years among many men’s wardrobes. Although these bland looking, flatfooted accessories are widely believed to be a ‘feel good’ remedy for the soles; in reality they’re a temporary fix. These hidden foes will inevitably bring on the unwelcome development of aching feet, fallen arches and inflamed heels; while the onslaught of sprawled and swollen tootsies will create doom and gloom with every timid step. It would be so much easier (and ultimately less painful) to write off these mind-numbing accessories, and kick them straight into the abyss of the unfashionable. Sadly however, some men still feel the need to continue wearing them.

Finding an attractive pair of flip-flops is a difficult task. Apart from the annoyingly loud flapping noise that they make, finding the right size can be a nightmarish affair. Unless the wearer has well-groomed and relatively small/narrow feet (because they’re generally available in half sizes), there won’t be much luck in finding a flattering fit. To keep styles fresh, every year a new color or pattern comes out. Unfortunately the overall structure and design of the flip-flop always remains the same: unsupportive and flimsy. Given the summer is almost here, try to stay stylish in your choice of flip-flops and ask Michael Bastian for advice.

Apart from the typical messenger bag, men generally don’t have a handy carryall to store all of their daily essentials. The man purse or ‘murse’ is one alternative. However earlier models tended to look extremely un-masculine. They resembled very poorly structured, cheap copies of women’s hand or shoulder bags. Therefore the standard alternatives such as; the laptop case, briefcase, or travel bag had continued to be the dominant styles for men’s carryalls.

Thankfully some designers have finally started to take notice of the lack of equality between men and women: at least when it comes to fashion accessories! Just in time for this spring season, one designer label has stood out among the crowd and has led the charge in the equal opportunity fashion movement.
Bottega Veneta`s Toro leather duffle bag has proven itself to be the fashionably practical solution to all of men`s traveling woes. Creative Director Tomas Maier has designed a fabulous, rectangular shaped compact bag. It’s perfect for storing all of the male necessities in one roomy, neat, and fashionable package. Its smart, self cross-stitched detailing creates a chic, yet masculine look; while the expertly woven leather handles are designed for a comfortable grip, make gorgeous accents and would nicely compliment every man`s wardrobe.

In September 2010 the runways of Milan were set afoot when fashion icon Miuccia Prada introduced her latest creation: a men’s classic shoe that looks like a cross between a brogue and a sneaker.

The ‘Prada Sneaker,’ as it was so aptly named, had a lack luster appearance that looked like a clumsy, clunky and uninteresting mass of confusion. It was in essence, a re-vamped brogue that had been transformed into a mere shell of its former self.

This genetically altered creation had a deluge of no less than four different shoe types all morphed into one very expensive fashion hybrid. Designed with a flat and inflexible straw/rubber sole, the brogue upper, espadrille-plimsoll platform style shoe had given new meaning to the phrase ‘over the top.’

Unsurprisingly the brogue sneaker has been a favorite among dandies alike. Priced at a cool £510, the trendy footwear has continued to sell out all over London’s high street shops since its debut last September. Of course with the iconic Prada brand name firmly entrenched behind its existence, would you expect any less?

While the ladies 2011 spring/summer clothing trends have appeared to be vibrant and bright, a few of the men’s collections have taken on a more subtle approach. One particular label that I found to be the most appealing (and wearable) this season was the 2011 men’s collection from Trussardi 1911.

Since its debut as a capsule collection in 2008, this Italian luxury brand has continued to rise through the ranks to reach the pinnacle of high fashion glory! The colors they used for their 2011 spring/summer men’s collection were simple and understated, yet appeared strong and bold. Deep blacks, bright whites and cool neutrals made up the core palette backdrop; while splashes of orangy-reds and cool hues of lemon yellows and ice blues acted as accent pieces. This color palette was also combined with geometric patterns to create interest and depth to simple detailing.

The Trussardi 1911 men’s spring/summer collection’s mix of diverse styles, simplistic shapes and sleek silhouettes added credence to their ongoing chic and fashion-forward flavor. Finely tailored pieces in sophisticated styles and flattering cuts accentuated the sharp dressed man. Whether it be retro rocker chic, preppy style, sporty comfort, cool casual wear, classic mod, or traditional wear; there’s a Trussardi 1911 style made for every type of man!

At the 2011 Oscar awards, most of the ladies’ fashion choices were a recipe made for disaster. The men’s styles of dress however were akin to a fine bottle of Merlot; simple in flavor, with perfect balance and finish. Of course men have always had a much easier time dressing than women (especially when dressing up for a formal affair). After all, how many ways can a man look absolutely ridiculous wearing a classic black suit or tux? The most notable mentions at this year’s awards include Jesse Eisenberg; who complimented his tailored tux with a skinny black necktie. The Social Network star was joined by co-star Justin Timberlake, decked out in a classic black tux, crisp white shirt and black bow tie.
When subtle changes in coloring and/or detailing are made to men’s clothing; it’s amazing how easily mundane and basic styled garments can be completely transformed into fresh, modern and flattering looks. At this year’s Oscar’s, there were a couple of surprising celebrities who followed this example with eye-catching results. The normally flamboyant and outspoken Russell Brand looked particularly edgy and quite sharp while strutting down the 2011 Oscar’s red carpet. Accompanied by his mom, he looked magnificent donning a perfectly tailored navy and black tux, skinny black tie and black lace-up boots. Thankfully at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, teen sensation Justin Bieber wore a tux that was completely opposite in color, style and fit; compared to his 2011 Grammy awards tux debacle! He looked all grown up, and quite chic modeling a stylish Dolce & Gabbana slim black dress pants, vest and jacket. A bright red handkerchief completed his debonair attire and matched his girlfriend’s (singer Selena Gomez) red gown perfectly.

When I think of men’s sheer wear, I feel a sense of déjà vu. I envision see-through skin tight t-shirted, spandex clad men jamming to the catchy beat of C&C Music Factory, or strutting to the hypnotic rhythm of Right Said Fred. Either scenario is disturbing to say the least. So when the Spring/Summer 2011 runway shows back in September 2010 announced that high-street transparency fashion was making its way back into men’s closets, I was sceptical. Thankfully the future translucent fashion trends for men appear to be much more user friendly than its previous generation.

If this trend does take hold, the predicted season’s neutral tones of greys, beiges and creams, as well as vibrant patterns used in combination with light, drapey and translucent materials would create a stylish back drop. With the pairing of soft tailoring or with other interesting color combinations such as, camels and navies, designed in light to heavy-weight materials; these layers upon layers would accentuate a clean, smart style that could be modified according to season.

It goes without saying that bare abs should never be flashed! If attention around the torso area is of great importance, it would be best to avoid wearing layers. Instead try to allow the naturally sheer material to be the focus of attention. This look would be appropriate to wear at a pool party, or during lazy, hazy summer days walking along the beach. Of course office wear and sheer wear still do not mix. Therefore, it would probably be wise to keep the see-through pieces safely tucked away in the closet during office hours!

In stark contrast to their female counterparts, the men’s fashion faux pas from the 2011 Grammy Red Carpet were quite drab, and paled in comparison. However there were still elements of fashion ridiculousness and tiny flashes of entertaining snippets that prevailed.

Stylish, classic and modern ‘black on black’ was the standard for the night. The proverbial black single breasted, peaked lapel blazer/tux was in full effect; accompanied by the classic black bow tie, or trendy skinny tie (stylishly worn by Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood from the country trio Lady Antebellum).

Unfortunately Rapper Drake’s poor interpretation of the black clip-on bow tie worn with a black dress shirt, stuck out like a sore thumb! The usually trendy and hip teen heart-throb Justin Bieber looked less than fashion fab; dressed in a poorly fitted D&G white velvet three-pieced suit (that looked like he borrowed from a friend), black clip-on bow tie and white high-tops. While Latin sensation Ricky Martin lived ‘La Vida Loca’ wearing an Armani black shawl collared, tuxedo blazer with black skinny tie, tight silver jeggings and a pair of high-top Emporio Armani black laced boots. The crème de la crème of the evening, earning top honors on the Grammy’s 2011 Fashion Ridicu-List belonged to rock legend Lenny Kravitz. He refused to conform to the norm and donned his trademark, over the top bohemian rocker chic vs. the land of the Nomads style to the hilt!
